I’m not sure but I’d guess Blender grease pencil. Blender does have some 2D spriting capabilities.

It’s true: In some RPGs, the first character does have trouble leveling up because side characters are more effective in combat.
Usually I get the opposite problem - if I was the one playing Alicia would level up nicely but the three stooges would be stuck as supplies carriers.
