Summary

Canada has ordered TikTok to close its Canadian offices, citing national security risks posed by its Chinese parent company, ByteDance.

While the app will remain accessible to users, the decision reflects growing concerns about data privacy and potential Chinese government access to user information.

TikTok plans to challenge the order in court, arguing it will harm Canadian jobs.

Similar concerns have led other countries to impose restrictions, with the U.S. considering a possible ban. Critics argue that closing TikTok’s offices may hinder government oversight.

TBH I don’t care if China has my personal info from TikTok. I’m not posting my social security on there. American companies have stolen (and leaked) far more data.

More importantly, if apps are able to steal my data from elsewhere on my phone, then that’s a much bigger problem with the OS.
