YouTube premium, as far as I’m aware, still shares some of your monthly membership fee to the creators you watch to offset not seeing ads. I also am a premium member and feel no guilt at all about skipping sponsorship sections because of this.

Control is the game for people with money and power whether it is graceful or not. Some of what Elon has done seems like he wants to control the narrative around his jet. Some of what Elon is doing seems like he just wants to keep testing the waters to see how many people still use twitter after crippling the system. Like some sort of “I slap them in the face and they ask to be hit harder- that’s how much power I have over them. People are obsessed with me”.
I don’t think his goal was to kill twitter. His goal was to remain on everyone’s lips without his jet being mentioned. And if that’s at the cost of organizational tools being destroyed, so be it- in fact, destroying twitter has had more people taking about him than ever.
I was just thinking about pulling out the seam ripper for that ltt badge on the backpack.
Hey guess what. Your experience doesn’t represent everyone’s experience.
Just tested Safari 16.4 and I got 404 passed, 27 warning, and 0 for both critical and skipped.
I also tested LibreWolf 114.0.1-2 and got 396 passed, 32 warnings, 0 critical, and 3 skipped.
This is comparing against the metal screen, no? Sure, it doesn’t have the large magnetic element at the back like membrane speakers, but it’s not nothing.
“We wanted to reduce the effect of the membrane as much as possible, since it’s heavy,”
Aren’t speaker membranes the lightest part of a speaker? I’d figure these things would still need amplifiers, would be highly dependent on where you sit (possibly amplifying unpleasant noise if you shift your position even a little bit due to phase), would generate ozone, and they don’t even really sound good when playing music, which means the ANC capabilities of them would be limited in the best case scenario.
I don’t know. Other “whole room ANC” devices have come and gone and none of them seem to work. It’s a great idea in theory, but I don’t know if this tech is any different in nature to just using membrane speakers.
ANC is already used in cars with moderate results, but you generally sit in one spot and there’s already speakers in your car.
We are all feds
Tangent here: Not sure if you’ve seen Owl House, [https://64.media.tumblr.com/81a4345c30c8c3e9a14c8b981f4a36de/470a73424ef059ec-5e/s1280x1920/fcccd5b89485fc0e51585d25388e1c216df08bb3.png](but they show a tamagotchi-like device in the second season ) where you can send little pictograph messages to your friends and WHAT I’D GIVE TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT. It reminded me a bit of Pictochat on the DS. But I know any device that was made would be pretty expensive since it would need wireless even if it wasn’t internet-connected. So that means it’d have a high resolution screen to justify the price, which would make it more expensive, then thicker for bigger batteries. It just doesn’t seem realistic or even something I’d want in the end with all the upgrades.
I do really miss little devices with low resolution displays. A lot of charm goes away for me when you don’t have to use your imagination at all- same with furbies that speak in clear english. There’s SO much room for expanding on the ideas of furbies and tamagotchis that hasn’t been explored, but unfortunately, I’m not sure if that’ll ever actually exist until a group of nerds get together and makes it happen. Being able to fight and collect things and have actual permanence in the game without babying the digital pet constantly would be amazing!
Oh! I actually thought the Furby Connect was another mainline furby, but I honestly didn’t find it good looking, so I passed on it completely (I’ve been more of a tamagotchi person anyway). I think a lot of the “furbies are creepy” opinions are just rehashed fear from the lies that were spread about the first couple furbies. I wasn’t allowed to have one when I was a kid because the people on tv said it was creepy because they might have cameras and would record children.
If my parents knew I have a stripped gen 2 furby with a single eyelash on my shelf looking like a skeleton, they’d definitely think it was creepy haha
Didn’t the terrifying Furby Connects of like 2016 have the ability to connect to internet-connected apps and would send OTA updates to the furby on a weekly basis? I think the furby itself was receive-only and wouldn’t send anything, but I might be wrong. I still think it’s fair to say that furby was at least semi-connected to the internet.
I’m not a programmer, but I work in a creative field. I routinely have to create red herrings so the producer, creative director, and clients can feel like they contributed by suggesting to remove the thing I intentionally put in there just so they can suggest its removal. It’s exhausting trying to manage everyone’s egos.
I didn’t see LibreWolf here anywhere. I’ve been going back and forth between that and Arc lately
Arc is real fun. I’ve been using it quite a bit lately
I ended up getting the red one delivered to me after all the praise it’s gotten (as well as an easyflow 9000M) and, I have to say after using it for a few days, I’m obsessed with this thing. It writes beautifully and is a great size.
The one downside (as it relates to the ink cartridge) is that when I’m using a thin ruler to make a sharp line in my notebook, it tends to make ink build up on the tip, causing a little blob of ink the next time I write, so I’ve gotten in the habit of rolling the tip on a post it note whenever I’m done making lines.
I might also put some keyboard lubricant on the spring mechanism in the pen so it sounds less scratchy when clicking it. But other than that, amazing suggestion! I now have a new favorite nice pen to use daily.
Ive been wanting to buy one for a while to modify it so I can use telephoto lenses on it. The dithering on it is such a good look
I’m mainly worried that some of the people I like watching on youtube will decide that youtube isn’t worth it anymore and they’ll stop making content entirely. Or even switch over to twitch, which I’ve never been able to get into.
I’m also a premium YT subscriber and if I see this or they kick me off for using PiHole, I’ll cancel my account and just set up some automation with YT-DLP to Plex or Infuse for channels I like watching. If youtube decided that it’s their turn to get shitty like the rest of the popular internet, I’ll be beyond upset.
I fully agree with everything you said. Unfortunately I’m stuck in the Adobe world for now because one of my clients require it, not that Avid is much better when it comes to expensive barriers to entry. I do need to learn how to edit in resolve because I’ve heard some great things about the process, though the thought of rewiring my brain for new keyboard shortcuts seems like a massive ordeal.
Mega corporations exist on massive stilts, propped up off the work of very talented people who aren’t paid nearly enough for what they do. One tiny silver lining of having design language pushed so hard by a company who uses it to sell more products is that good design language can be copied and implemented into FOSS options with enough work. Of course, I don’t know anything about how strong apple goes after their design language patents, but before the iphone, no phone to my knowledge looked like a black glass rectangle (for better and for worse). I won’t be buying apple’s recently announced VR option, but I am excited to see what their design language does for the VR landscape as a whole (even if I don’t buy any of those either).
All this being said, I think there’s a couple good things, but there’s also a lot of bad things about apple as a whole. I figure most companies I’ve heard about are contributing toward the world becoming a worse place, but at the same time, I have to exist in this world, and being more comfortable while being stuck here is pretty important to me personally. I’ll just continue to try to seek out people to vote for who are vocally (and historically take actions) against monopolies, anti-consumerism, and promote strong regulations.
I’m not a fan of either
You could say I’m sp-ace
(let’s ignore the existence of lower deck and strange new world for this joke)
