I worked for the US division of a German company and found that the culture even for the US workers was very respectful of time off and appropriate working hours. I hated the job because I was customer facing and our customers were typically large US companies, but the German company was a great company to work for.

It’s kinda mind boggling to me because it’s not like it’s hard to find porn everywhere on the internet. Sure maybe some companies will comply and set up some sort of age verification that attempts to block minors. Other companies will do what pornhub did and just quit doing business in that state, but if a teenager wants to find porn on the internet they absolutely still will. You can torrent it, get it from usenet, or just type “boobs” into Google. Hell the Fediverse is already like 50% porn.

It’s gonna require parents monitoring their children’s online activity like they should already fucking be doing because there’s way worse things than porn on the internet.

I’m tired of being penalized as an adult because parents can’t seem to do the job of actually parenting their little shitstains.

I’ve been trying to block all the Hentai, cartoon, and AI porn communities on LemmyNSFW but other than that it’s pretty great! If you turn on the auto-expand images setting it makes for easy left-hand browsing.

I run a plex server because I don’t want to subscribe to 15 different services with 15 different shitty UIs just to watch TV. FF and rewind always works the same on Plex and the pause button is always in the same spot.

Every time I open Netflix or Hulu or Prime I am infuriated that it doesn’t immediately take me to the last show I was watching.

Also I like to watch shows as they originally aired, not with missing episodes that Hulu pulled to keep advertisers happy (It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia and Community come to mind).

Half this country is concerned that the people crossing our border aren’t the “best and brightest” but what about our law enforcement? It’s certainly not the “best and brightest” who become officers.

I’m looking forward to giving hardcore a try. I played classic quite a bit up to Wotlk. I didn’t have any interest in hardcore until it became an official thing (it used to be an add on that you installed that kept track of all the players who attempted the hardcore challenge).

I’m currently working on the culture series. Apparently the first book in the series is considered the worst, though I didn’t hate it. I’m looking forward to reading the rest. I started The Player of Games but I haven’t been reading much lately so I think I’ll have to re-start it when I pick it back up.

Prior to that I read the entire Revelation Space series including all the side stories. I really enjoyed most of them.

No sci-fi I’ve read has compared to The Expanse unfortunately. I’m still looking for something that grabs me in the same way.

Biden has two “band-aid” fixes that I’m aware of.

The first as you mentioned is the student debt relief which doesn’t address the root cause of the problem that colleges can charge exorbitant fees to 17 year olds who have no concept of financial responsibility.

The other band-aid is the pardoning of non-violent marijuana offenders. I’m all for these people getting their lives back but it’s 2023 and marijuana is still fucking illegal in the United States even though most of its citizens and most of its states have decided that it shouldn’t be illegal.

I don’t get Biden. He talks a big game but he can’t seem to make any meaningful changes because he’s too busy losing the gun control war.

I would do unspeakable things for more stories set in the Expanse universe. The TV series should at least get another season or two in order to catch up to the last two books and I think it would be great if the authors/showrunners could explore some of the side plots more fully.

The soundtrack was amazing too. I ripped it to MP3 from the CD years ago when CDs and MP3s were still a thing. I listen to the soundtrack regularly to this day.

My wife accidentally activated this on her Pixel. The phone was in a mount on her motorcycle handlebars and some bumpy terrain moved the phone in a way that the power button was pushed 5 times by the mount.

In the motorcycle world, European bikes from KTM, BMW, or Ducati are typically considered to be the most fun. While they cost a shit ton and require very frequent maintenance, if you ride a KTM or a BMW it shows that you are willing to throw a stupid amount of money to have the most horsepower and the best handling even though you may break down on the side of the road and need to change your oil every 500 miles.

I don’t intend to shit on Japanese motorcycles because they (Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki) do a great job of providing a reliable (and still very fun) motorcycle experience but hop on a BMW or a KTM and you’ll understand how it’s just better as long as you can stomach the cost and maintenance.

I will never judge someone’s choice of motorcycle (unless it’s too fucking loud) but the most fun you can have on two wheels is when the bike comes from Europe.

I downloaded Ubuntu 5.04 and have mostly stuck with Ubuntu for almost 20 years. I’ve tried other distros over the years but I’ve always come back to Ubuntu.

I know they can seize other things than money but I always make a point to carry very little cash whenever I travel.
