@ElectronSoup @juergen @bobslaede I feel like the FOSS community has a lot of different types, but the two that stand out to me the most are the Eric Raymond right-libertarian (“I just want to say the n word without repercussions”) and the Richard Stallman vague leftist (minus the creepy shit).
@JonEFive @setsneedtofeed That episode sat with me for a very long time
@hamborgr @SemioticStandard yeah but which kidney are we talkin here
@humanetech @thoro I like it because it weeds out the type of people who would end up being low-effort posters, trolls, and spammers.
@Skimmer5728 I think what we’re doing right here in the fediverse is a good solution. We’re just building a parallel infrastructure to their dumb web3.0 garbage. Those who want a better Internet can come over here and those who want to stick with garbage can stick with it.
@smartwater0897 @dukethorion Exactly. FB corrals a big chunk of the low-effort people into one place who would otherwise ruin great communities.
@sina @dukethorion FB is for lazy boomers who are too scared of anything truly technological
@peveleigh @Doomguy I try to self-host as much as possible but with email I am willing to go with protonmail (and even pay for an upper tier). However I did learn how to set up my own email server on my raspberry pi using citadel which was pretty cool
@argv_minus_one @MrsEaves Honestly I am so glad something like the fediverse exists. This is so much more in parallel with how I try to live my life than some top-down centralized system.
@ch1cken @usernamesAreTricky @kaffeebohne i for one welcome our new chicken overlords
