0·1 month agoEasy fix if nothing works. Find the specific pipewire-version that causes the webcam bug, compile and install it, possibly render your sound settings partially defunct on the way and hook up a webcam. Thank me later.
Have you looked into the “Activity” settings within system settings already? When you click on the default activity there you should see the option “Automatically shutting down or sleeping”. I’m sure you already tinkered with the energy system-settings.

I’m not into that topic. According to a quick search the exhaust fumes method is working because of Carbon Monoxide (CO) and not Carbon Dioxide (CO2). Wasn’t there a redditor who did not recognize he was killing himself with CO and other redditors saved his life?
I’ve also found a pretty repulsive study done on piglets about the ideal gas for euthanization. It found a 2-step procedure with N2O (Nitrous Oxide) + O2 (Oxygen) as an anesthetic for 12 min followed by killing via CO2 was the most stress-free method.
The activists are protesting against the CO2 method in the UK currently. And I hope the management of the respective companies get public hell for it. I don’t know if it’s used in other countries too.
Absolutely nothing peaceful about it. Pigs in UK are killed with CO2 and it’s harrowing. The only advantage is that slaughterhouse workers don’t need to look their victims in the eyes while it happens. The pigs get lowered into a gaschamber where it happens. They shit themselves and scream their lungs out while fighting for up to 3 minutes of their miserable lives. You can find a pretty recent documentation about it called Pignorant by vegan activists who infiltrated those facilities. They’ve also demonstrated in front of the HQs of those companies (e.g. Pilgrims) by playing back the audio from the gas chambers.

Wonder if their thriving has anything to do with scumbags like the one from Wyoming posing with a crippled, defeated wolf in a state where basically no restrictions exist about how many and in which ways apex predators are allowed to be murdered. Looking at Montana, Dakota, Wyoming, Pennsylvania and Utah. No that can’t be it. The natural way has to be to gun them down from helicopters with gatling guns. That’s how it always has been done in good old america.

The reintroduction of wolves transformed the ecosystem of Yellowstone for good. They not only hunt but disperse ruminants so they don’t concentrate on specific locations and interrupt plantlife there. They hunt weak prey, maybe those that suffer from illness (like CWD) already. They leave carrion for scavengers who can spread seeds of specific trees like willows which also had a comeback in Yellowstone. Through dispersing the ruminants they enabled the comeback of the beaver who also worked towards restoring the plantlife via new waterways.

I’m from Europe but I see the stupidity and sadism of North Americans especially in Wyoming, North- and South Dakota, Montana, Utah & Pennsylvania everyday on my timeline. The depicted case is no singular event. They systematically hunt down apex predators like foxes, wolves, coyotes, bobcats, mountain lions and also very advantageous animals like oppossums (ticks) and beavers (preventing wildfires and restoring nature) and racoons (pestcontrol).
The images I’ve seen made by Pennsylvanian firefighters(!) hunting down foxes in fundraising hunting events were just harrowing.
Then those sick in the head hunters & trappers and their spoiled kids pose themselves as the only viable solution to regulating overpopulating tick-ridden ruminants or the recent superboar infestation after they killed of all their natural predators.
I wish them good luck with CWD and Alpha-Gal ticks in deers when they’ve exterminated the species that could effectively render CWD harmless:

3·6 months agoDiamond Age is my all time favourite (although I read it just one time as I do with all books). In the current age of AI it is very relevant. If nano technology and AI will progress we’ll maybe head into the depicted scenario and I hope I’m still alive then.
Cryptonomicon, Anathem, The Baroque Cycle are wild rides and masterpieces too. Anathem was a bit hard to get into but it got really exciting after the first 300 pages (of ~1000) or so.
I did not read that book of Calvino (nor have I heard his name) but there exists a free game on steam called “If on a winter’s night four travelers” with very positive reviews which seems to be inspired by the book.
I only read “The Left Hand of Darkness”. That novell was fire (no pun intended). Excellent world building and super captivating and immersive writing.
7·6 months agoThe only innovative thing CDU/CSU has done was inventing a time machine which can travel back to the 60s.
Of all Bundesländers they got at the helm in Berlin. And wreaking havoc as always that corrupt industry obedient creeps under whose regimen the most farms died and who now present themselves as the only party (besides the horse farmer Christian Lindner) who wants to save small farms by posting 3 year old pictures of photo-op’s (Plöß) in a farm or putting on rubber boots and hugging farmers (Klöckner).
They constantly don’t stand with their past opinions (Söder regarding cannabis legalization) are anti-semites (Aiwanger) and climate change deniers. They are against renewables, animal welfare, modern organic farming, abolishing of fossil fuels and alternative transportation methods and everything that’s necessary to save the asses of the future generations.
They’d definitely coalition with AfD if that would be the only measure to get into power again and working into the hands of fossil fuel and alcohol lobbyists again.
Everything that’s going bad in this country is not the fault of their 16 years of corrupt reign but of the Greens who are merely in power for 3 years, who made record low GHGs, record high renewables and the breaking up with Putins gas in germany possible (Habeck for chancelor).
Look at this especially dumb conspiracy theorist specimen here who’s allowed to regularily write pieces for Springer-Press telling us it’s an imperative to save the combustion engine in favour of a dying german industry:

1·7 months agoI had ONE hick-up with Nvidia drivers on arch in about 6 years. I needed to downgrade them initially when Valve released the new Steam UI. That’s been fixed pretty fast. When I’m thinking back it was the only problem I had with arch upgrades in its entirety apart from one that was completely on me: installing KWinFT which completely messed up some system libraries (but was repairable). Arch was nothing but rock solid stable for me.
In fish it would immediately expand to dir2.
If you have “Dir1” and “DIR2” and you type “cd d”, your prompt will look like in the next picture. Fish automatically transforms “d” into “D”, because there is no dir starting with the lowercase “d”.
On a subsequent <TAB> you’ll get a list of dirs matching your prompt so far in which you choose an entry with the cursor key and enter it with the enter key.
