  • All the people saying “yes” are incorrect. Running on pavement and running on trails exert different strains on the body, but not less. The tendency in road runners is to end up with tibial stress fractures, and in trail runners it is metatarsal stress fractures, but the injury rates are similar. Trail running requires stronger stabilizer muscles (primarily gluteus medius) to maintain knee health in the long term, but this is a problem for both as well.

Use good shoes, strength train your gluteus medius and calves, do most of your miles at an easy pace, and you’ll be running for decades, regardless of your chosen surface. You might even change it up and do both!

(My credentials are that i am an ultramarathoner and have run half a dozen races between 26.2 and 50 miles, on pavement and trail, and i have been coached by a professional ultra runner for several seasons.)

  • I’ve found several long term relationships off tinder as a WLW. It seems to work pretty well for me. The system doesn’t seem to be working for guys, and that’s unfortunate. But a lot of the pressure on women to settle for any man has gone away as women have become more self reliant. The whole thing has become far more consensual and less mandatory for survival. That’s going to influence men’s dating success no matter what medium people use to find matches.

It’s crazy how much height subconsciously influences our opinions of each other. I’m tall enough that most men don’t look down at me, and I’m widely respected professionally. Men listen when i talk in meetings, and it’s very easy to sell my ideas to people. My shorter coworkers who are more talented than i am struggle to gain respect.

My ex is 5’2" and i have very strong feelings of cute aggression towards her, and have to consciously remind myself to consider her opinions sometimes. It doesn’t help that she acted like a child a lot during our relationship 😒

  • Rancid omega-6s are potentially a much larger issue, and endemic to the Western diet. Palm oil is a particularly bad offender, but any oil that contains polyunsaturated fatty acids is not shelf stable. And beyond just “no health benefits”, racid PUFAs are actually fixated in your adipose cells as-is, meaning that any weight you gain is going to be in the form of oxidized fatty acids, which are a hallmark of aging.

Put all the pieces together and suddenly the mysterious reason that processed foods are “bad for you” makes a ton of sense.

  • Probably it’s more the former reason. I used to curate my experience on reddit carefully and mainly participate woman centric subreddits, and few male centric ones, and I got used to that. Lemmy looks more like what would happen if you browse default subs on reddit, which tend to be very toxic. It’s a chicken and egg problem: you won’t attract women unless there are spaces women feel comfortable, and those spaces don’t exist unless there are women there to create them.

I still find myself going back to reddit for certain niche fashion or fitness things. And when i try to get my normie girlfriends to look at lemmy, it’s hard to sell them on it. They don’t care about politics or mod drama and reddit is still better for them.
