This is not new, this was implied through most of TOS, and I belive the first explicit indication, I cannot remember if they used the world capitalism but they did specificaly mention that the 21st century uses money unlike there entire lifetime, and it was indicated they did not know the value of how much money was worth as seen by Kirk asking if $100 was alot of this was in Star Trek the Voyage home.
Not just TOS but pretty much all of the original Trek series is so apparent idk why people are thinking it’s so crazy and radical that they had someone say this in SNW. TNG makes a habit of talking about how they advanced past the need for material wealth and everyone is provided for etc. DS9 brings it up regularly too. Voyager less often but it’s in there.
I always feel slightly annpyed with DS9 because while they talk about it with Quarc and contrast with Firangi, I do wish thsy showed more confusion with hpw capitalism works like we saw in the voyage home
