Its a similar project to lemmy, great thing about federated apps is how open they are, so with kbin ur still able to interact with lemmy/mastodon etc like normal
I’m new here too, but this is my understanding of kbin: Lemmy is like the fediverse reddit. Mastodon is like the fediverse twitter. There’s a fediverse facebook alternative (can’t remember the name). Image hosts, video hosts etc.
kbin talks them all and can be your central hub. Imagine facebook, reddit and twitter etc all merged their websites. But you have a single fediverse identity.
I just signed up for kbin wasn’t sure if this is lemmy and I can use this to reach other instances
Kbin supports any activitypub service, so it’d work for lemmy, mastodon, etc. So you can still view posts from lemmy communities, comment on them and have upvotes synced between the two.
Yeah, as others have mentioned, kbin ≠ Lemmy, but because of the magic of the fediverse, they talk to each other. But I like kbin better since it also interoperates with Mastodon, Calckey, etc as well. Easier than Lemmy at any rate.
So, is this lemmy? I just signed up for kbin wasn’t sure if this is lemmy and I can use this to reach other instances. Also an Apollo refugee.
Yep, you’ve made it to Lemmy. The lemmy.ml server, specifically.
Kbin isnt actually lemmy as far as i know, its a different project, but they can interact with each other thanks to the protocol of ActivityPub.
Could someone explain kbin for me? Is it like a different instance the way lemmy.ml or beehaw is? Or is it a different thing altogether?

What’s the difference between Lemmy and Kbin in terms of user experience and features?

WUPHF.com!!!
Correct, they interoperate. Though in my humble opinion kbin has a lot of features I hope Lemmy gets to soon.
