Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday there would be no peace in Ukraine until the Kremlin realizes its goals, which remain unchanged after nearly two years of fighting that has sent tensions soaring between Moscow and the West.
Speaking at a year-end news conference that offered him an opportunity to reinforce his grip on power, Putin gave some rare details on what Moscow calls its “special military operation.”
He dismissed the need for a second wave of mobilization of reservists to fight in Ukraine — a move that has been deeply unpopular. He said there are some 617,000 Russian soldiers there, including around 244,000 troops who were called up to fight alongside professional military forces.
“There will be peace when we will achieve our goals,” Putin said, repeating a frequent Kremlin line. “Victory will be ours.”
For me it is also not over until putins useless corpse is getting dragged behind a car across moscow. Some reports state that Putin was very intimidated by the images of Gaddafi getting jumped by people in public. Its the authocrates bigges fear that one day the people organize and drag him out of his palace. I will never forgive Putin what he has done and I will only forgive the complicit population if they drag his lifeless body over the red square. He killed hundred thousands of people. He deserves the Gaddafi-Treatment.
There won’t be peace in Ukraine -or Russia- until Putin is dead.
I am afraid even Putin’s successor will be more or less the same warmonger. You know by now their whole political elite is so corrupted that I don’t see them giving up their privileges easily. And there is a pretty high chance for whoever is elected after him to continue his politics.
I’d rather roll the dice than endure a known supervillain. Best if the Russian people put Putin’s head on a pike themselves - send a loud and clear message to the next guy.
I wonder how much the GOPs are getting paid for fucking everyone over. Hopefully it’s at least a hefty bag of money. It would be sad for risking WW3 over $20k.
Those greasy fucks would be perfectly fine with a bag of hamberders
It’s very enlightening to see how many similarities there are between Russia’s goals and Israel’s. Yet we have Russia condemning Israel’s invasion of Gaza and Ukraine supporting it.
I suppose it’s all geopolitics.
Russia is allied with Iran, which means they have to support their ally Hamas.
Ukraine is dependent on Israel’s closest ally - the US - for their weapons, so they won’t condemn it either.
I doubt either of them really do this out of conviction.
That is because Ukraine needs America’s support and Isreal owns a majority if american politicians. Russia does not care about Isreal and Gaza as much as they want to be againest US interest.
Its not so much Israel owning the majority of American politicians as it is the pro-Israel lobby. This might seem like semantics at first, but it’s not. A huge portion of the pro-Israel lobby is fundamentalist Christians who care about Israel not for the sake of Israel or the Jews, but because they think its existence is important for the biblical end times to come about.
Yep. It’s the same people who are trying to breed a perfectly red cow to be sacrificed and bring about Armageddon
Ukraine is falling in line with west, not sure of Zelensky’s actually view but him being against Israel would strengthen Russia’s argument that the regime is Nazi.
Russia wants Israel’s genocide of Palestine because it takes the focus off them.
Ukraine was put in a situation where they need to fellate the US and allies to survive, it didn’t surprise me they’re doing whatever the US wants even if it’s hypocritical
Geopolitical interests is the keyword you’re looking for.
Many of so called “developed nations” care more about their interests rather than human rights.
Many nations in general, not just developed or developing.
Correct.
I did mention developed countries since they’re utilizing human rights to push their agenda once they align together.
Developing countries do the same but they have little to non existent influence over other countries / nations.
This is the best summary I could come up with:
Speaking at a year-end news conference that offered him an opportunity to reinforce his grip on power, Putin gave some rare details on what Moscow calls its “special military operation.”
But with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy now forced to plead for more U.S aid, a stalling counteroffensive and reports of fracturing Western support for Kyiv, he decided to face the media once more — although the session is heavily choreographed and is more about spectacle than scrutiny.
Putin’s remarks about another wave of mobilization were met with skepticism by some independent Russian media, which pointed out that he had promised not to draft reservists for Ukraine and then reversed course and ordered a “partial” call-up.
He also fielded questions from a group of children in Russian-annexed Crimea about the leaking roof and mold in their sports hall and a woman who addressed “my favorite president” to complain about the soaring price of eggs.
President, when will the real Russia be the same as the one on TV?” one text message said, apparently referring to the Kremlin’s control over the media that portrays Putin in a positive light, glosses over the country’s problems and highlights its achievements.
Journalists lined up in freezing temperatures to get into the venue hours before Putin’s arrival and some donned traditional dress, including elaborate hats to catch his attention.
