Now that Tears of the Kingdom has added amazing new mechanics like building contraptions and fusing items/weapons would you be disappointed if they didn’t include them in future games?

Disappointed? No. I would rather be disappointed if they infinitely reused the gimmicks of this game instead of thinking about new gameplay mechanics. Even the most amazing gameplay elements and concepts can be reused only so many times until they start to feel stale eventually.

Plus, as cool as some of the former gameplay elements have been, those weren’t reused either. Twilight Princess is the only game that lets you transform into a wolf. Oracle of Seasons is the only game that lets you change the seasons in the overwold at will. Majora’s Mask is the only game that repeats the same 3 day cycle over and over again. If Nintendo went “oh the fanbase absolutely loved these, we can never change or ditch them!” then Breath of the Wild would have been a VERY different game.

They will think of something else for the next game, and I’m totally okay with that.

I kind of hope not. In my mind, Zelda should be a canvas that different things are applied to. I wouldn’t want them to pigeonhole too hard in one direction.

I can see elements of it going to new games, but I don’t think they will make building and fusing major components of future games. Especially if they don’t keep using such huge open worlds.

Speaking of open worlds, I can’t see them making a bigger map than TOTK any time soon. With the Depths and Sky Islands, it is honestly overwhelmingly large.

Amen to the massive world - I’m actively playing, working on many side quests, and I feel like I’m hardly scratching the surface of the world let alone all of the nooks and crannies.

I’ve got to be more than 100hrs in and I have done two dungeons. I don’t remember Breath of the Wild being as distracting and massive as this one is.

TOTK makes BOTW look even more like a proof of concept than it already did to me. Like you said, Tears is just full of more things to do than BOTW had and that was exactly what I wanted from it.

Me too. This is exactly the game I wanted. I live the mechanics of BotW. This is just that, but new and huge and massively fun. I’m loving that it is a direct sequel.

It’s taking so long for me to open up the depths. Honestly it took a while for me to open up the main world in general. I’m really enjoying the game, and I plan on completing as many of the side quests as possible because I do not really foresee myself replaying this again.

Building and Ascend are probably one-game mechanics.

I can see Rewind coming back in some form.

Fuse I can definitely see making a comeback in some form. Considering they effectively eliminated things like elemental arrows and magic because you can customize your weapons to fit your needs.
