Hmmm. This smells of incel bullshit.

The artist is female. The character in the comic with the short hair is female. Sure, a female could be an incel but if you apply Occam’s razor, look at her portfolio of other comics, and do a little critical thinking then you might just conclude that this comic is just one of many that is of her type of humor. That’s all. Put away your pitchforks.

Whoops, having an opinion isn’t a pitchfork, chill out.

Also you’re correct, being female doesn’t make you immune to incel culture. I should know, I’ve thought about it critically.

The notion that someone doesn’t want to be with you because “you don’t make enough money” is a common trope and is, more often than not, incorrect.

You know the saying “where there’s smoke, there’s fire”? I’m sure you can see smoke from that high horse.

That’s not a question for me, and is beside my point.

There are people that make relationship decisions based on finances, but the idea that you asked someone out and they said “you don’t make enough money” in rejection is one of those things that doesn’t really happen.

More importantly, this gets tossed around by incels as reasons to view people as shallow and undeserving of respect. In reality it’s likely they misunderstood the situation, or didn’t think about why they themselves wouldnt be a great partner to be with.

The author is probably genuine and just wanted to make a joke, but that doesn’t change that they reflected an incel idea here. That amplifies that voice, and that’s what it looks like to me.

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted, but oh well…

People can reject dating each other for any reason they want, no matter how silly or frivolous.

I’m pretty sure though if you are genuinely asking someone out and they say no, the reason is not as important as the yes or no answer… it’s not like any valid reason is better than a supposedly invalid one…. Just move on and fine someone else you like and ask them out….

The down votes are likely a knee jerk reaction, but it’s no big deal 🙂

I agree with you, that’s a better way of thinking. It’s more rational to say hey, that one didn’t work out but it’ll be fine.

I understand though, rejection hurts, and most of us have been through that. I just think more people need to be able to brush those things off and move on, as you’re saying.

Yes rejection hurts and it is difficult to not take it personally, I just feel like incels need help, and just shaming them for something we acknowledge is involuntary doesn’t really help the issue

Reading comprehension - it’s important! Go back to the comment you replied to and read the whole paragraph. What does it state? Your comment was completely unnecessary.

No no, anyone with short hair is a male and is automatically bad, doubly so for being lonely or depressed because naturally only bad people can be lonely or depressed unless they’re women in which case they need help and love and acceptance.

Oh God, you’re one of them.

Hey bud, it’s gonna be OK. Change your attitude and focus on making something of yourself, and maybe you too can learn to empathize.

Here we see Poe’s Law in action

Just because there’s sarcasm doesn’t mean I can’t disagree with the underlying message (that depressed women have it easy)

No one is saying depressed women have it easy. Being depressed sucks ass no matter who you are. What we’re saying is that while depressed women get a support network of basically any woman they happen across, depressed men often as not get left to fend for themselves.

and focus on making something of yourself,

What does this mean to you?

If incels “incorrectly” point to income as a reason for rejection what does “making something of yourself” mean? Do you think none of them have hobbies or something?
