The screenshot shows comments somehow being nested multiple levels without an intermediate parent. That’s a bug, right? Nesting should only be increasing by one level at a time.
I’ve observed this happening a ton across many different threads. There’s also some weird cases where the top level comment is just a link to “show parent” and… It’s not actually top level??
My understanding is it has to do with deleted comments not having a placeholder, so the comments you do see look like they’re nested strangely

I think you are right. This reproduced the issue for me.
I used to see “comment deleted by user” or something like that, has that gone away?
Also the issue I’ve noticed pretty often recently is that there are apparently replies to a comment, but I click to view them and it disappears. That happened with your comment, did you have any replies before mine?
It said two but expanding them said no comments loaded
I assume some of the bugs will be fixed in the coming months
It’s bugged. Change your default comment sort to ‘New’, fixed it for me.
Hot works for me, top doesn’t.
I believe Top is completely broken, Hot is sometimes broken. New works.
I noticed that too. Changing comment sort didn’t seem to affect it, at least not that I noticed. It seems that it’s listing the newer child replies as technically newer than some of the parents, and sorting by new affected the whole tree, not just top level comments.
sort by top for comments is bugged. sort by hot and you’re good.

Top is bugged so sort by top?
