So real story here, the reason it took so long was that everytime somebody built a house thousands of house spiders would flock in, rendering the house unusable. Then somebody had the bright idea of building a decoy house which also become the first shed.

In case anyone is curious: the ancestors of house spiders lived in caves. They’re adapted to live in very dry environments, which is why they can survive indoors while most other spiders can’t.

Folks say all sorts of things.

Personally, I’m fine with house spiders as long as they do their job AND don’t start laying eggs indoors.

Don’t nest where you hunt, house spiders. It never ends well.

Speaking of, is there something natural that I could spray or put out to deter spiders from setting up shop in my place? I dont want to kill them or anything, and also know they are usually helpful in eating mosquitos and such but there are certain places in my apartment I want them to stay the fuck away from forever, like my bedroom.

Lavender oil, (and a little tea tree if ur feeling fancy) drop some oil in a spray bottle with water. I love the shit so I dump the oil in there but a table spoon will do. Also useful for ticks on hikes around your ankles. Note some species dgaf.

Remove the food source and the spiders will go. They frequent certain places because the hunting is good.

Nothing you can buy in a store is natural. You can get things that will deter/kill insects that aren’t toxic to humans, like peppermint extract, but I don’t think calling something that humans pressed and processed from a plant that was grown, cultivated, and bred by humans “natural” makes any sense. Most plants produce their own insecticides, so make a list of your favorite herb/flower scents, check which ones work/are available, and go to town.
