It is the largest volume contract ever concluded in civil aviation. Indian low-cost airline IndiGo announced on Monday June 19 that it had ordered 500 Airbus A320neo family single-aisle jets.
This “historic” firm order, with a theoretical catalog price of $55 billion (50.4 billion euros), was revealed on the first day of the Paris Air Show by IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers, in the presence of Airbus Executive Chairman Guillaume Faury. It concerns aircraft to be delivered between 2030 and 2035.
Air travel on the rise in India
These new aircraft - the A320neo family also includes the higher-capacity A321neo - bring to no fewer than 1,230 the number of models of this type ordered by the airline, which is counting on the explosion in demand for air travel in India.
In fact, another Indian airline, Air India, was behind the previous largest order for civil aircraft in history. In February, it bought 470 aircraft, 250 from Airbus and 220 from American competitor Boeing. IndiGo has already taken delivery of 253 A320neo Family aircraft.
Stop this madness, we need less airplaines and less fuel burned.

low-cost? Don’t use this term when we talk about environment. The environmental cost will be paid by us and our children. The oil needs to remain in the ground, untouched.
There is no such thing as a “low-cost, oil based” business plan.
