I don’t trust any of the major phone manufacturers to update my device for an extended time. It is intrinsically against their interest to support a platform long term at the expense of a missed sale on a new device.
Not that I like Motorola, but they do offer an unlocked bootloader on most of their phones. LineageOS supports a number of them officially, which makes for a very easy install and extended support model. Not bad for a $300 phone.
I don’t believe this is true, though I’m certainly no expert on the subject. Taiwan Semiconductor is the largest manufacturer of the chips, but they use lithography equipment manufactured by the Dutch company ASML.
A camera platform small enough to fit a standard door frame isn’t going to be able to hold serious optics. The sensor sizes are going to be too small for good night vision, if nothing else.
The temperature issue is probably an issue of economics. Most people don’t need such a wide range, so off the shelf products don’t support the application, as it would incur additional cost.
Both of these are solvable issues however if you’re willing to use a standard security camera mounted over the door instead. There are many cameras that you could pick with large sensors, heating elements, and more.
Great write-up! This might help some of the bigger instances as well.
I hate that bug so much… If you forget to log out however, you can hit ctrl-alt-f1 to switch to the x session, which frees up the shutdown.
I absolutely agree. They should be disbarred at the very least. This level of idiocy undermines the integrity of the entire system.
The procedure looks straight forward enough, but depends on your installation method. Documentation can be found here: https://join-lemmy.org/docs/administration/backup_and_restore.html
Absolutely phenomenal work! I love how fast the community is reacting to the scale changes. So many great things are in store for this platform.
