True it was active in 1977 16 years after CVN-65 entered active duty. It was only a civilian test vehicle though and was only named enterprise because of public demand. Maybe that had something to do with it.

In universe reason could be that CVN-65 USS Enterprise was active until 2012 and therefore during the show. I don’t know if there are any rules against having two vessels with the same name.

Out of universe, well that would be a whole other can of worms.
