Not all women get assaulted. Almost all of us who date men have had an experience where we were legitimately afraid we were about to be assaulted, though. The comic is saying most women have fucked up stories about dating men. Don’t ask if you don’t want to hear them.
Did you read what I wrote? I’m responding to @Gigan@lemmy.world’s original statement of “So 100% of women have been sexually assaulted?”. @boogetyboo@aussie.zone then responded with “Every woman I know including myself has?”. I simply replied saying that “Everyone I know” is not the same as “100% of women”.
If you read all of that, and you’re standing by your reply, then it sounds like you’re agreeing with me and @Gigan@lemmy.world by stating “Assaulted? No.”
But too many have been sexually harassed at least once. I think it was 1 in 3 girls experiences sexual harassment before age 18.
I completely agree with you. But that’s not what my comment was about.
Where’s your line of assault vs harassed? Is it a man exposing his penis when you didn’t ask for that or agree to it? Is it a guy coming up to you and asking if you have a boyfriend and when you say yes, he grabs your face and kisses you anyway? Is it your friend’s dad grabbing your butt at a party? Or is it only penetration. What about a one night stand who keeps going after the condom breaks? Every single woman I know has several stories like the above (those are mine off the top of my head).
Those are all awful, of course. I think the defining difference between assault and harassment are contact. So all of those would be assault, except probably the guy exposing himself. Things like wolf whistling, sexual comments etc. would be considered harassment.
For what it’s worth, both are shit, don’t do either, but I think if we want a defined difference, that’d be the one I arrive at.
I mean yes but as a random clueless guy I was like what? Like my image of sexual assault is forced sexual actions up to and including straight up rape and if that’s happening to so many women in the US then holy fuck. I’m doing the internet equivalent of rubbing your eyes because you can’t believe what you’re seeing.
Every woman I know including myself has?
You don’t have to believe anything. It’s not a faith based system.
Just speak to women and you’ll hear how common it is.
Your anecdotal experience doesn’t equate to 100% of women.
It’s also not an anecdote-based system.
Common is not equal to all. OP is doubting the implication that all women have been assaulted.

Wait, are we talking assaulted or harassed? I mean it’s bad either way but isn’t sexual assault like a really big deal?

Holy fuck. Holy fuck^2 at the friend’s dad one what the shit.
well considering the comment said “sexually assaulted” I think it’s safe to say we’re talking about sexual assault and not harassment.
