/kbin and lemmy might be not perfect yet, but I am glad that I am here and not on Reddit.
agreed. this has been really fun the last few days. it feels more like a community to me than reddit ever did.
It really does! I hadn’t realised how much I just wasn’t engaging with reddit and just lurking. The community here seems much better, although I’m missing my more active niche subreddits. Still early days though!
Everyone’s trying their best to contribute and keep this movement alive!
I find I’m getting far less interaction.
On reddit I could make a few comments a day and get a handful of replies, whereas here I’ve had like two. No chance for engagement but it’s a small user base.
It’s early days, and we have to give the place a chance to grow and develop. The best advice I’ve seen in here is not to lurk and build content and communities, which is what I’ve been trying to do at least.
Also weirdly, I had a notification that you had replied but then when I clicked on the notification I couldn’t find you reply? So maybe a bug?
I’ve enjoyed stumbling into the same people every now and then like I did, believe it or not, at one time on reddit…
The only names I recognised from reddit where the trolls I sort to avoid.
Very much. This feels a bit like the internet of old, before we all got tunnelled into giant socmed monoliths.
Same. Reddit fucked up beyond reasonability or reversibility.
welcome. I didn’t end up deleting my reddit account (and I still go on there a little) but yeah, it’s super cozy here on the threadiverse.
Same. But damn has the engagement on here been top tier.
I just bit the bullet and created an account here after a couple days of lurking. I read that spez upped his asshole factor again, if that’s even possible, and my personal blackout is still ongoing. There’s some communities I miss but I think the universe was telling me to move on in its own way. I’d scroll for hours and hours, and I know that’s not good for me.
I’m trying this place out, along with Squabble. I’m taking a short period each morning(after the initial 2 days) to poke at any of my Reddit subs that are open, to see where they are and if there’s another blackout poll.(voted indefinite in two of those so far). Not sure how long I’m gonna keep poking in.
Apart from the interview he gave, was there other spez assholery?
The interview, the mod replacement threats, restoring users deleted comments. Probably some other stuff too by the time this is posted. I think he’s running for a guinness world record or something, biggest asshole of 2023.
I haven’t severed ties completely but have unsubscribed from almost everything but a few fringe subreddits that haven’t developed communities here yet. And I joined /r/redditalternatives and /r/modcoord during the blackout.
I really dig this place, and the concept of fediverse as a whole. There is definitely more of a sense of community unlike the mass amount of numbers that go through the doors daily at reddit. At this point I still have muscle memory to type in “reddit.com” into my browser, so I do catch myself still wasting time on the site, but hopefully that fades away.
@flobbie I did that like 2–3 times in the last 2 days. But I already deleted my Reddit accounts, so visiting the site was worthless.
This federated social media idea is AWESOME. I’m glad reddit shit the bed so i could find this. This here is the future.
The amount of doubling and tripling down is impressive, it’s as if someone has even less tact than Elon Musk at attempting to address concerns of the community. It would almost be better at this point if they just straight up said it’s because they have a change in business strategy and just be honest that they’re making it effectively impossible for 3rd party apps to operate so they can make more money.
It does feel more comfy, though only time will tell. It certainly is nice to at least have an alternative place to check out habitually.
I’ve been having fun checking out the alternatives. I’m honestly not sure whether I like Lemmy or kbin better.
The walking PR disaster of the Snoo Platform known as spez disgusts me.
All hail the Fediverse!
I think I have done my rounds and checked out almost all alternatives. Many have good points, as well as bad. The thing that made me think the Fediverse is the place, is seeing actual debate. People actually stating sources for their opinion, then replies stating alternative sources, etc… No hate, just calm breaking down of viewpoints and decent scientific sources being used. I couldn’t recall the last time I saw that on Reddit. I have been in that place for 15 or so years.
This made me explore the Fediverse, that was about six months ago. I explore any new place that pops up, mainly from curiosity. Some I really have hated, but what makes one place better over another can be subjective. So I am not going to hate on anyone that opts to move elsewhere. Life is too short for that shit. I moved to Kbin after exploring other places in the fedi-wotsit-time-continuum, for no other reason than it felt relaxed, and heading in the right direction.
I really hope someone gets a spiritual successor to r/cmv going.
It’s up to us to build something better here. Reddit was built by it’s users and more often than against the owners rather than with them. Here we have a chance to build a platform that reconciles the interests of the owners and users.
At the beginning of the blackout, I thought if spez changes his mind I would go back, but while I haven’t severed all ties, I feel reddit growing increasingly distant to me now. I have long felt that it’s not great when one profit-driven entity takes over an entire category of social media, and I’ve found some kindred spirits here.
In the Fediverse, I feel I’ve discovered a new continent with a strangely medieval society, and to my surprise, it’s been winning me over despite the feudal bickering.
