A friend of mine is a big time Trump supporter. He says “Trump is the best speaker in the history of the United States”. Showed him a written “speech”(one of Trump’s incoherent ramblings) and he couldn’t say a single word back, just chuckled at me and walked away.

Why are you friends with this person? How do you not just find him impossible to even be around?

Different person, but I also have a trump supporter friend. We get along in so many other ways that we separate for about 15 minutes and come back to start bullshitting about other stuff. I’m also working to deradicalize him, but it’s difficult since we don’t see each other often. We’ve been friends since we met each other in middle school, a relationship like that doesn’t just end.

          Ah, see, there’s your how:

We get along in so many other ways that we separate for about 15 minutes and come back to start bullshitting about other stuff

My experience is they so adamantly refuse to listen to anyone about anything there’s no point in trying to talk to them about anything at all. Quite different.

Good luck saving your friend. It’s good to know there are still some people who might be brought back from the precipice, even if I have yet to meet any of them.

Easy, they just need to be an imaginary friend.

Oh damn, so we can’t be friends with people who have different political views? Are you ok?

That’s not what I was implying at all. I was implying that this person is likely made up, or maybe this interaction was just totally made up.

Lol. Why? What makes it sound that way? It actually is real, btw. I have no reason to make it up. My across the street neighbor (who is a very good friend, too) is actually a massive Trump supporter. It’s ok to be friends with others who have different political views, I promise. Don’t be bitter

You’ve now, twice, even after me explicitly telling you that it’s not what I said nor meant, completely fabricated a belief of mine … While trying to prove you’re not fabricating this event.

You’ve got no reason to lie about what I’ve said …but here we are.

What else do you mean by assuming that I made it up? I think you’re just looking to argue with someone online. Lol

Its a total a caricature of a pigheaded trump supporter in a story of a complete devoid of any actual details.

It reads like fanfict. Like a story from trump about how someone just conveniently told him all of this bad stuff about his opponent when they thought they were about to die.

We get along pretty well outside of Drumpf. He knows my views and I know his. We don’t let it fuck with our friendship and we respect each other’s views. We do fuck with each other often for laughs. We don’t need to be enemies with others who have different views, that’s not going to help anyone.

That’s good news, I just don’t understand how haha! As to making enemies of people, I want to be friends with everyone. I cannot be friends with neo-nazis or fascists, and I’d argue that anyone holding those views has chosen to make me their enemy (though it’s not a label I have a problem with, from that crowd).
